County: Amherst Survey Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Basic Weather: Clear, Temps in the 80’s Party Members: Ty Smith & Evan Spears We had some spare time while in Amherst Co. this day to check out some areas and hopefully find a Timber Rattlesnake. Driving up the mountain, the habitat looked great. After reaching the top, we explored the trails a bit and found a nice seap to search for Salamanders. We found: Northern Dusky (Desmognathus fuscus) {3} A few individuals (mostly juveniles) present in ditch of the seap. Seal Salamander (Desmognathus monticola) {5} In the seap with Northern Duskies. Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) {1} A spectacular black phase male found basking 5 feet from my car door. The specimen was photographed for several minutes and audio of rattling was obtained.
